Author Greg Dutilly once said, “A happy man awaits eagerly the rising of the sun.” A happy mind, in a happy body, can affect a better balance with it, thus creating much more than a mind that is depressed.
Hello folks! Let me begin by explaining the term balance! The words ‘balancing act’ take our mind back to our childhood! Hand in hand with our parents we’d hop and skip into a circus tent and gape at the amazing leaps of the trapeze artistes or walk by the roadside where we’d stare at agile tightrope walkers, running on their flimsy cords. As we grew up, we saw surfers and skiers speeding across the sea or snow, balanced & upright, heading towards their goal. These artists pushed themselves to strike a perfect balance and coordination between mind and feet and combined it with physical energy. Amazing, wasn’t it?
But hey, looking back today, at those superb performers or sportsmen, we can imagine the mind-boggling supreme balance, coordination and control, of their reflexes, between mind and body… each in complete harmony with the other. Where one dared not dominate the other! With the mind being the software, driving the body – the hardware! An example is Arjun the master archer of the Mahabharata. As a child, when his guru Dronacharya asked the students to aim at a wooden bird, he asked them what they saw. While everyone said they saw the bird, the sky, the trees and branches, Arjun said he only saw the eye of the bird. This great archer not only combined the strengths of his mind and body, but also displayed his ability to streamline his focus towards his goal.

Perfect coordination! Hence in continuation what we read above, physiologically, a sick body cannot move ahead, even if psychologically it is powered by a strong mind. They both must be healthy. The body, on its part, must be robust & healthy, giving the mind the right apparatus to work upon. Similarly, the mind, which is an intangible entity, resides in our neural system and works in fine balance with the brain, its home, and the body. Thus, when all these systems are in harmony, the brain gets a support and the mind that resides in it, functions normally, thus creating various thoughts, ideas etc. There is thus seamless coordination, between both.
The Connector! What is this connector? We’ll, you’ll see. We just spoke of the connection between body and mind. But what is the connector, the transporter? Simple, it’s blood. Blood, the fluid connective tissue, is the one and only most extensive transporter in the body connecting all systems. It carries macronutrients as well as micronutrients, to every organ in the body, powering them with energy to perform to their very best. It also drains out unwanted substances. Thus, a healthy blood circulation results in all the nutrients being supplied to all the organs in the body, keeping them going and on the mark. On the other hand, poor blood circulation results in the degeneration of an organ, starving it of nutrients thereby loading it with toxic substances.
Lifestyle, the Culprit? You may very well ask yourself… What is it that results in this ‘poor blood circulation’ or ‘restricted nutrient supply’ to the organs of the body? It’s a sedentary lifestyle. A life where physical activity is almost zero, if not zero. Without exercise or physical activity, the body gets restricted blood circulation, thus starving it partially and loading it with toxic substances like lactic acid, urea, etc. Today’s lifestyle is one of the culprits of this sedentary living. The jobs we do, the lives we lead, with technology bringing us everything at our fingertips, we can easily lay the blame at the door of this lifestyle. But, one can surmount this obstacle. One can work around it. Where there is a will, there is a way. As you will gradually learn, as you read on.
Exercise, the key! Thus, to maintain one’s organs working at full capacity, one’s blood must be loaded with nutrients, and for that to happen, the body must be exercised. It’s a healthy cycle, that will keep the body working to its optimum. Thus, good activity will result in good circulation, which in turn will supply healthy nutrients to the body’s organs. Thus giving one a super healthy body! Simply put, a fit body! And that is the central essence of balance. For, a healthy mind can reside comfortably, in a healthy body and that’s what we call “the balance factor.”
Mind it! Speaking of organs, there are many, but there is one that is the control powerhouse, the one director, the brain. All thinking, all directions to the mind, all instructions to the body, all emanate from the brain. You are what you are because of what the mind, via the brain, directs you to be. And if that central command centre stops working, it will result in all imbalances between body and mind. Besides the mind driving the body to physical achievements, the brain powers the mind to produce intangible results. In other words, emotions!
Command Centre! And the wonders a healthy mind can achieve, to pun it, positively boggles the mind! It can create, it can direct, it can motivate, it can command, it can think, it can direct, and more. With the body at its service, the mind, with the nervous system at its disposal, can achieve its balance, with the body awaiting all these commands to act. The healthy body, exercised, with healthy circulation and raring to go, can thus give the mind, so to speak, a run for its money.
The Sky’s the Limit! It is mainly via what the body creates that leads us to conclude, that it is the creative mind that has ‘inspired’ it. The mind of every artist or workman, directs the body which in turn, turns out a creation with his hands or feet, depending on his feat. Because the mind has no boundaries for achievements and with the body at its disposal, especially in harmony with it, in tandem with its requirements, in balance with its desires, the sky is the limit.
Marvels of the Mind! That is how this harmony and balance of the body and mind comes forth marvelously, when you view the artistic output of great artists like Michaelangelo or Rembrandt; or get lost in the symphonies of musicians like Mozart or Beethoven; or marvel at the inventions of scientists like Alexander Graham Bell or Madame Curie; or the performances of great artistes like Amitabh Bachchan or Elizabeth Taylor; or the achievements of Sachin Tendulkar or Virat Kohli on the cricket pitch and more. Go to any field, be it science, music, sports, the arts…The list is endless.
Wakeup call! Let’s list a few hard truths. With the advent of science and discoveries, new treatments to beat diseases, enlightenment should dawn on humankind, to use one’s body rightly. But no, man seeks refuge in medicines, in drugs, in alternate medicine, for; a cure is being found for almost every illness within sight. Why exercise to keep your ailments at bay when the latest medical interventions are available? So, we cheat the mind, to furnish the body with health that is, albeit, temporary. We get caught up in lifestyles that comprise all the wrongs for physical well-being. We get lost in the rut, of late hours and timelines. The mind is charged up while the body has become slave to a sedentary lifestyle. The deterioration has set in and imbalance has found a way! The unhealthy nutrients will find their mark, and the body will slowly degenerate, a victim of imbalance between body and mind. Saying this is easy but is there any solution in sight?
The cure! Yes, there is a silver lining to this dark cloud. It’s called diet regulation and supplements. Monitoring your diet is of prime importance. If you are not burning enough calories, so why eat more than the body can chew. But then, when you reduce your diet you might be losing on important nutrients, so that’s where supplements come in. Called nutritional or dietary supplements, they provide you with nutrients that you might not otherwise get in sufficient quantities via your restricted diet. Thus, vitamins, minerals, proteins, amino acids and other nutrients help you build up your constitution, and get you going, restoring the much-needed balance between your body and mind.
Stay Fit. Be Sharp! Let us go about setting a balance between our mind and body. Let’s aim for a healthy coordination between mind and body. Let us lead active lives, thus pumping adrenalin, and letting the mind and body live in harmony with one another, in perfect balance, constructively creating a better world for ourselves and for others to live in. A healthy diet coupled with dietary supplements is your solution to this.
